A Seventies Disco at Banstead Cricket Club,Avenue Road,Banstead,Surrey for two Birthday girls Tippy and Jacqui both celebrating they're 40th Birthday's.
The Disco is a 'compulsary' fancy dress and as no body let the girls down and even the DJ's have worn they're black wigs and medallions, there were some worrying photos which i'll try and put on here to show if not similar! The venue is fairly small but cosy and well organized, keeping the music all Seventies from start (6.45pm to finish, about 11pm) is going to be a task, although i have a large collection of Seventies Soul/Jazz,Disco and Motown i felt i needed to build up to the Abba,Bee Gees,Gloria Gaynor section with some slow tracks and a few 'forgotten' ones for example Carol Bayer Sager-Moving out today,Natalie Cole-this will be,Harpo _Movie Star,Charles Aznavour-She and some other well known tracks to warm up like The Real Thing-Can't get by Without You,Hot Chocolate-Put you together again and Boz Scaggs-What can i say.
When the variety of fancy dress guests arrived including those with the expected Abba costumes and Marc Bolan,David Bowie and Gloria Gaynor and had a few drinks at the bar the party got into full swing and people were taking their wigs off because of over heating! Lots of classic seventies disco songs were played; The Bee Gees,Four Seasons,Sylvester,The Doobie Brothers,The Gibson Brothers,Heatwave,Chic,Sister Sledge,Abba,Boney M and Earth,Wind and Fire.A glam rock section was slotted in with T Rex,Steve Harley and the Cockney Rebel,Slade,Wild Cherry,Alvin Stardust and Sweet with Blockbuster.
As the evening came to a close i played a few Cheesey ones which nobody ever owns up to dancing to,showaddy Waddy-Under The Moon of Love,Mud-Tiger Feet,The Nolans-I'm in the Mood for Dancing and to end with the Bay City Rollers with Bye Bye Baby
