Jaime contacted me to enquire about me doing a Disco at the Sutton Cricket Club which is in Gander Green lane,Cheam.
It was to be a celebration of her Mum's life who sadly had passed away ony a few months before ,her wishes were for no funeral but a party for friends and family.
I met Jaim eand some of her family at the club a few weeks before the Party to see where to set up and which entrance to bring my equipment in.She brought me a list of her Mum's favouirite songs which was mainly from the sixties but with a few newer songs as well. She was a great lover of Cliff Richard with several of his classics onthe list including We don't talk anymore,Living Doll and Miss you mights.Other artists were The Kinks,Abba,The Foundations,The Beatles,Diana Ross,Elvis,The Spencer Davis group,The Macarena and The Outhere Brothers with Boom,Boom,Boom ,very funky!
We set up on time for the guests to start arriving at 7pm with extended uplighters around the dance floor, some of the family were already there as we arrived and more family and guests gradually came in.
At the club there is a large bar round the corner from the disco and the dance floor ,as most of the guests hadn't met for a long while they had a drink and chatted in the bar area and occassionaly came round to dance and grab some food.By 8.30pm there must of been around 100 people so a good turn out ,Jaime had a little speech, emotions were running high but she did well. Some of the couples had dances together and during the night i played some Seventies and Eighties classics as well as Earth Wind and Fire's Let's Groove ,Billy Ocean and quite aptly towards the end Tavares with Heaven must be missing an angel.
By about 11.45 a few more guests came to the dance floor and joined in with the Monkees daydream believer,The Beatles all you need is love,Elvis Preslry Suspicious minds and finally Niel Diamond's 1969 Classic Sweet Caroline.
All in all a good night with some happy memories shared of Lynn.
