Simon called me a month or so before the date of an intended Party he was planning for his daughter's 18th Birthday and wife's belated 51st Birthday. He wanted a mobile disco.
He was planning a party last year for his wife (Lisa) but that had to be abandonded because of the Covid regulations. As it was a suprise I went to see him pretending i was quoting for some cleaning work he also needed doing as my other work involves doing spring cleans. We looked at where to set up and chatted about making provisions for any bad weather and agreed a price for my services.
I was to set up at 5pm on 26th June when both his wife and daughter were definitely not there and were coming back at 6pm approximately when all the guests would of arrived.
I arrived on time with my son to set up however part of the suprise was no longer as a neighbour had given away the secret about the disco a day before but luckily only to Lisa,Simon's wife not his daughter!
We set up on schedule in the garden but then it started to rain so up went the Gazebo to give my equipment cover.
An astonished Rachel arrived at about 6.30pm to the sound of Stevie Wonder's Isn't she lovely followed by Kool and the Gang's Celebration,by this time the sun had came out so i played a few summer tunes followed by some Calvin Harris,Duke Damont,Disclosure and Sean kingston.
Some older music followed for Lisa's friends and family including Alison limerick,Gwen Mcray,Jo Smooth,Dan Hartman and the Real thing. We found out Lisa's party peice was the Fatback band's I found Lovin' and she came behind the Disco to MC!
A good time was had by all and i ended up playing Sister Sledge's We are Family and Michael Jackson's Never felt love so good to end with.
